The prestigious Department of Sahitya was established in this institution on 24th August 1971. Prior to that only one paper on Sahitya was taught. This task of teaching the paper on kuvalayananda was under taken by two eminent personalities Prof. U. Shankar Bhatt and Prof. L.N.Bhatt since 1969.Ever since the establishment have been teaching Naisha mahakavya, Kiratarjuniya, Sakuntalam, Uttararamacharitam, Gandhicharitam, Pratimanatakam and a host of classics in Sanskrit literature. The staff members are able to impart the knowledge and intricacies in Sanskrit kavyas to the students in such a way that this knowledge is propagated throughout the length and breadth of the country and abroad.
Later Prof. Sannidhanam Sudarsana Sarma joined this institution on 30-07-1987. He is the senior-most professor of the dept and is presently Dean, Faculty of Sahitya and Samskruti. He was Founder Vice-Chancellor of S.V. Vedic University Tirupati and served two terms. He is currently Member Second Sanskrit commission. He delivered key Note speeches in a number of national and international seminars and he is at present the guiding force of the department of Sahitya in particular and the Vidyapeetha in general. He is involved in conducting a number of seminars, refresher courses etc., which give credence to the Vidyapeetha.
Prof.K.Ramasuryanarayana joined in this institution in 04-02-2001 and he is reputed scholar and active researcher. He retired on 31-10-2012. He is great poet and was recipient of Prestigious President Certificate of Honor, on 6th May 2011.
Dr.G.S.R.Krishna Murthy joined as Reader in the Department in 28-01-2000. A good teacher and great poet, he was honoured with Mahamahopadyaya in the year 2009 by Hindhi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag 2009. Now he is on lien to Sri Venkateswara Vedic University as a Registrar.
Prof. C. Lalitha Rani joined the Vidyapeetha as Lecturer in 12-01-1995 and is able to impart the knowledge to the students in the best possible way. She worked on Venkatachala Mahatmyam and is also engaged in research work and is guiding scholars in the Sahitya Dept. Now she is Professor, Head of the Department, UGC SAP coordinator and Deputy Warden of Women’s hostels since 10 years. She is the first lady Sanskrit professor in Vidyapeetha.
Prof. Satyanarayana Acharya joined in the year 19-11-2009 in Vidyapeetha as a Associate Professor. Dr. R. Sadasiva Murthy joined as a Assistant Professor in 28-01-2000 and he is a good lecturer and reputed scholar. He is a Cultural Coordinator of the Vidyapeetha, Director of MAIMT course and Director of Sanskrit Movie of “Hidimba Bheemasena”. Dr.C. Ranganathan joined as a Assistant Professor in 01-02-2001.Dr.K.Rajagopalan joined in 13.09.2007. Dr. Pradeep Kumar Bag joined as a Assistant Professor in 03-11-2010, Dr. Bharath Bhushan Rath joined as a Assistant Professor in 03-11-2010. Dr. J. Balichakravarthy joined as a Assistant Professor in 04-11-2010. K. Leena Chandra joined as a Assistant Professor in 27-08-2012. Dr .Swetapadma Satapathy joined as an Assistant Professor in 26-09-2012. Dr. Gyananaranjan Panda joined as a Assistant Professor in 26-09-2012.
The Department of Sahitya is now a full-fledge department and is imparting knowledge to the students studying Prak-Sastri, Sastri, B.A, Acharya, M.A, and Vidyavaridhi. All the staff members are efficient and dedicated to their assigned work. The Department of Sahitya has conducted workshops and seminars for that benefit of teachers and students. It also conducts quiz programmes, essay writing, and elocution competitions for students. All the staff members of this department are actively associated with AIR and Doordarshan broad casts. All of them are involved in “Live Commentaries” of Sri Vari Brahmotsavams and Sri Padmavathi Brahmotsavams performed at the famous T.T.D. temples.
It is realized by the entire world that knowledge inherent in Sanskrit literature is fathoms deep and it can mould a global environment where people live with amity and cordiality where human relationships flower and character of the society is guarded in a proper way. The study of Sanskrit texts instills in the students a sense of pride and spirit of oneness and protects our sanathana dharma. This study of Sahitya also helps to mould a total personality and the student comes out of the institute with an ideal and moral outlook that helps the society in general and our land in particular.
It is certain that the Department Sahitya will grow to greater heights of glory and will bring reputation to the Vidyapeetha so that this Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha will shower fragrance to the entire world in the days to come.
